I'm using Nvidia GTX 960 with nouveau-drivers and have big issues with tearing. (Xfce)
I virtually don't know anything about graphic settings or configuration at all. My previous install used the proprietary driver and it was a mess. Buggy, icons not showing and so on, so next (current) install i used nouveau-drivers instead and all is just fine, except for huge video-tearing in Youtube and VLC. I tried compton, but no luck. Tearing was persistent.
I've read the nouveau wiki page and saw that i should create a "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nouveau.conf" if there wasn't any with the default lines:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Nvidia card"
Driver "nouveau"
EndSection
I did that, but after reboot just a blank screen. I CTRL +ALT +F2 and removed the contents of the file i just created and logged back in. So far so good.
But, is that conf file necessary? I read somewhere in this forum that i can add a "Tearfree" "True"-option in that file to get rid of tearing but could not find it in the Arch Wiki so i didn't put it in. (if it was an "official" solution i presume that would have been listed as an option in the "troubleshooting" section for nouveau.)
Or to simplify my question, how do i get rid of all kind of tearing in Arch Xfce? Is it my hardware that's bad? In fact, it is a old graphic card (over a year old at least) and if the issue is not persistent with GTX 980 or Titan X/Z then i'll buy one of those.

You must have had something that was not installed/configured properly with propretary drivers.
I use Proprietary drivers with 'KDE/XFCE/Cinnamon/Gnome/I3/Xmonad/bspwm' and have never had such issues.
Tearing with Proprietary drivers is easily fixed using "ForceCompositionPipeline = On" on most systems using recent drivers.
Option "metamodes" "DVI-I-1: nvidia-auto-select +0+0 {ForceCompositionPipeline = On}"
Let me know If you need help with Proprietary drivers ...

Hi. With proprietary drivers i didn't experience any tearing at all. Just with nouveau drivers. But i want to use the free drivers, but thanks anyway.

Try using another Compositor like Compton
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compton
Nevermind this i re=read your post and saw you tried compton

Yes, as i stated in my post, i've already tried compton. It got better, but hey, it's 2015 it shouldn't be an issue at all.
I'll go back a while, why dont i have a "20-nouveau.conf" file? And when creating one with the default nouveau settings my screen goes blanc? Because the work around "notearing" "True" maybe gets rid of all tearing. Don't know, because i can't get it to work with that file at all.

By default Nouveau does not have a 20-nouveau.conf and you need to create one manually(optional). Having that file should not prevent you from starting your DE....
I would double check the Nouveau wiki for steps you might have missed.

Could you also post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log

ok, it's almost 800 lines, but here it is. Iv'e checked the wiki and it all seems fine. All the required packages and dependencies seems to be installed.

I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.
I use it to look at funny pictures of cats and to argue with strangers.

Did you reboot after installing nouveau following the wiki guide, log tells me your either missing packages/configuration or just need to reboot
Offline
First, make sure you have nouveau module loaded :
$ lsmod | grep "^\(nouveau\|nvidia\)"
Then, if nouveau is loaded, try installing the xf86-video-nouveau for 2D acceleration.
If you use 3D applications, install also mesa-libgl.

Did you removed all proprietary nvidia driver related packages and configurations?

All the packages from the Wiki is installed. I have rebooted a lot of times since.

Yes.
[arch@Arch ~]$ lsmod | grep "^\(nouveau\|nvidia\)"
nouveau 1314816 3
Those packages is already installed.

I never installed proprietary drivers this installation. I see there is a libvdpau 1.1-1 installed.
If i'm not wrong here that belongs to nvidia packages some how, if i remember correctly but i installed it as a part of mesa i think a couple of days ago.
So, i understand my setup is faulty some how. I'm planning to do a brand new install of my display drivers. Is there a "simple" or the simplest way of achieving this? Remove all parts of video drivers and do it all over? I don't really have the time for a total reinstall right now, so if there is a "work around" i would be glad.

Just remove it. Follow this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/No … DIA_driver
Then can you post the following commands?
cat /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
ls /etc/modprobe.d

# MODULES
# The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
# run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
# in this array. For instance:
# MODULES="piix ide_disk reiserfs"
MODULES="nouveau"
# BINARIES
# This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may
# wish into the CPIO image. This is run last, so it may be used to
# override the actual binaries included by a given hook
# BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries
BINARIES=""
# FILES
# This setting is similar to BINARIES above, however, files are added
# as-is and are not parsed in any way. This is useful for config files.
FILES=""
# HOOKS
# This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
# modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
# Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the
# order in which HOOKS are added. Run 'mkinitcpio -H <hook name>' for
# help on a given hook.
# 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
# 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules
# 'filesystems' is _required_ unless you specify your fs modules in MODULES
# Examples:
## This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.
## No raid, lvm2, or encrypted root is needed.
# HOOKS="base"
#
## This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should
## work as a sane default
# HOOKS="base udev autodetect block filesystems"
#
## This setup will generate a 'full' image which supports most systems.
## No autodetection is done.
# HOOKS="base udev block filesystems"
#
## This setup assembles a pata mdadm array with an encrypted root FS.
## Note: See 'mkinitcpio -H mdadm' for more information on raid devices.
# HOOKS="base udev block mdadm encrypt filesystems"
#
## This setup loads an lvm2 volume group on a usb device.
# HOOKS="base udev block lvm2 filesystems"
