how to merge transactions.db.pacnew into the main file?

I've updated my archlinux installation after a long while and now I see that /var/lib/PackageKit/transactions.db.pacnew is created and I don't know how to merge database files into their main file because they're not text files and I can't read them and compare with the main file.
How can I merge /var/lib/PackageKit/transactions.db.pacnew into the /var/lib/PackageKit/transactions.db ?
actually what does this file store?

Packagekit != pacman. I'd simply remove  /var/lib/PackageKit/* and let packagekit recreate that database
