Hibernation/Resume problem

Hello everyone

I have installed Arch linux on a MSI GE60-2OC (link) with full disk encryption, following this guide: (link)

I am always able to hibernate but when it comes to resuming from hibernation i have random freezes which means that sometimes i am able to recover from hibernation while other times the system tries to recover the image then just hangs in the process with a black screen. That force me to power off (holding the power button) and power it back on, losing the hibernation image.

I've tried to boot with debug kernel parameter and that was the result:

FluxBB bbcode test

So i did what it asked (booted with no_console_suspend) and this was the output

FluxBB bbcode test

Thanks in advance for the help

Additional information:
My system is using a SSD (Samsung MZ-7TE250BW SSD 840 EVO)
Bootloader: Gummiboot
I'm dual booting windows (successfully)

Re: Hibernation/Resume problem

I'm sorry this probably isn't much help to you, but I have problems with hibernation, too. On all my systems, actually. I think it's kernel related. I have an older MSI GT780DX, and sometimes it hibernates and comes back fine; sometimes not (with a regular HDD, no SDD). I have another laptop with a RAID setup, same deal. A much older netbook that's also a crapshoot with hibernation. I've even found that suspending can be problematic.

But the really frustrating thing is some kernel releases are okay, others aren't.

So my (likely unhelpful) suggestion is, if you have no real reason to hibernate or suspend, don't. Either keep running or shutdown. There was one particular kernel release that did all manners of power management successfully, but I'd have to look back to find it. I'll see if I can.

Re: Hibernation/Resume problem

Thanks for the answer,

For me hibernation is quite an important feature and keeping the laptop running is often not an option.

I also suspected that it was some kernel related stuff and looking around i read that the LTS kernel could help (link) so when i have time i'll look into that. In the meantime i'll wait for other answers hoping that i can make it work without switching to the LTS kernel.

Re: Hibernation/Resume problem

hello,

switching to the LST kernel seems to have solved the issue even if it introduced new ones like not being able to get HDMI sound.
should i mark the thread as solved?

thanks for the help.
