ASUS Eee PC 1015PE Noise

I am using the ASUS Eee PC 1015PE laptop. It is placed on a cooling pad and I monitor the temperature: it never jumps above 70°C. However, last days the laptop produces a strange noise at random times. The noise is very like a cat scratching a piece of metal. The first thought that went into my mind is that the fan just needs greasing. It happened before that when I gave it to service they told me that the fan needed greasing and they had greased it. However, I found out that the noise appears at temperature 62°C and does not appear at temperature 67°C. Then another idea got into my mind. That this may be a hard drive problem.

Because it is very hard to disassemble the laptop is there a way to just stop the fan ( I know that there are special modules for Eee PC laptops and ASUS: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AS … 5_PE.2FPEM , I "modprobed" them, but nothing happened).

Or is it better just to give it to service in order to prevent the laptop from breaking.

Thank you in advance!!!

Re: ASUS Eee PC 1015PE Noise

About 60-70°C seems already too hot... I think that it should be at least cleaned from the inside...
BTW, what's the point in using such an old and weak machine nowadays? You can buy a used PC for less than $200 and yet it should be better than your Eee... If you cannot afford, the last resort might be cleaning and changing the grease...

Re: ASUS Eee PC 1015PE Noise

I know that this laptop is ancient.

Luckily, I am using it for a small amount of time because my real computer is being repaired for about a month in service. I use it because it is with Linux and is my previous laptop. The other choice is Dell Inspirion 6400 with 32bit processor and 512 MB of RAM, so I think the ASUS Eee PC with 64bit processor and 2GB of RAM is better choice.

Thank you very much for your response, I will try to fix it!!!
