Hi Arch Linux forum!
I've scanned the forum for a thread comparing Arch Linux to the AMD64 branch of Debian, but haven't really found anything. Anyways, at the moment I am using an oldish AMD 2700+/1G RAM system which I am planning to replace with a AMD X2 system or similar in the near future. I am also a rather happy Debian/Kanotix user (Debian's apt-get and Kanotix's additional hardware support and script tweaks make a great combo), but I DO feel that the i386 Debian system I use at the moment is a little bit sluggish. I expect more from todays hardware. I am a fairly experienced Linux user, and the Arch system does look very tempting. My questions pretty much boils down to these:
Arch Linux advocates usually points to the fact that Arch is i686 whereas Debian stable and testing is only i386, giving Arch some extra ompf. But how does Arch i686 compare to the Debian AMD64 branch in terms of speed? Does anyone has any experience of both systems here?
How is the 64-bit Arch project coming along?
Ehm, with speed I mean diffuse and subjective stuff like desktop and game responsivness and smoothness.
Best regards

i actually just installed debian etch on my amd64s so i could get back into arch64 development. I think debian is a little slow compared to arch... but it is stable. arch64 is not always so stable as i found out the hard way ;-p

i run arch64 arch32 & kanotix64
kanotix64 is stable fairly quick
arch64 is still a work in progress but is coming along pretty damn quick
arch32 runs fantastically on my amd64 box , quick & stable
if you got some space on your hard drive checkout arch 32 & 64
