[SOLVED] USB devices not mounting

I was downloading stuff into my usb drive with KTorrent. I came back later to check up on it and KTorrent said there was an error with the drive (don't remember what exactly).

Next, I updated my system and restarted (hoping this would fix the problem).

It was not fixed so I proceeded to investigate the issue further:
- lsblk does not show the device at all (sdb)
- dmseg does not show the device
- if the usb drive is replaced by my android phone, dmesg shows the output below indicating that it is recognized. However, I still can't do anything with the drive and it does not appear in lsblk.

Is it broke perhaps? Can you see the drive when plugged in on another computer?

I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.
I use it to look at funny pictures of cats and to argue with strangers.

Re: [SOLVED] USB devices not mounting

When I plug it into a Windows computer, it is also not recognized and nothing happens. The android works and I am able to access files, though.
On arch, the android does not mount (not in lsblk), but now I tried a flash drive and it worked.

Re: [SOLVED] USB devices not mounting

So you just have a broken flash drive is all.  You Android device is not a disk and should not (normally) be recognized as one.  If you want to transfer data to/from an android device, that is a separate question which is well covered in the wiki.

I was able previously to access my android. First it would show up in my plasma desktop notification. Then I would click mount and I can see it in dolphin. Now, i am not able to do that.

See Trilby's post. The Android devices do not automatically mount as drives, you have to make them do that. Read the appropriate section of the Wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/An … oid_device

Re: [SOLVED] USB devices not mounting

Update:
- My external hdd is faulty since it makes a noise when plugged in. (I hope this was not caused by arch.)
- I think my android problem had nothing to do with the hdd. It was solved by installing  kio-mtp.
