Installed arch last week with minimal linux experience. I love it so far, customisation potential is great compared to windows. I've only had a few small hardware issues.

This is my token post on the introduction thread.

I've actually used Arch Linux for about a year now on and off, I love highly modular hardware and software so Arch is my OS soulmate!

I'm a big fan of cheatsheets and assimilating complex information into an easily digestible format so I'm hoping to get involved in writing some Arch documentation in the near future.

My programming knowledge is very primitive, Ive used MATLAB in the past (I'm a mechanical engineer) and I'm teaching myself C++ so I can start writing simulators to graphically explain engineering concepts. I have a website registered however it is currently unused but I'm always hoping that one day I'll flesh it out with cheatsheets and other goodies.

I'm glad to have finally joined the forum!

Hi everybody.

I installed Arch about a week ago. Prior to that I'd been using Ubuntu that was installed dual-boot with windows 8 (I don't think I actually used it once after I'd installed ubuntu, other than to get some wifi drivers.) And before that I'd mostly been using various versions of windows or mac osx for the last ~10 years. There was a brief stint when I was 15 when I installed Red Hat on the family computer without asking but my father made me get rid of it.

Installation was mostly good, I have a broadcom wireless card in my Vaio, that was definitely a bitch to get setup. Other than that it has pretty well been smooth sailing! I absolutely love the wiki. Definitely some of the best maintained technical documentation on the internet. Bravo!

I first started learning to program BASIC when I was 8 on an apple //c my dad picked up at a garage sale. I have two uncles that are software engineers and both of them gave me books and I started to write little games for my brother. One time I wrote a "Russian Roulette" game that was listed in a book and my father played it and banned me from using the computer for a few days.

I haven't really ever done anything with programming or computers other than a hobby. I did some web design and development when I was in my late teens (PHP, MySQL, Javascript, HTML, CSS, etc...) but that didn't really go anywhere. Recently I've started back into the web dev stuff and have been loving it. I'd forgotten how much I actually enjoy coding. It is an exciting tme to learn web development, there are so many great resources these days. A bit of information overload, but I am learning how to filter out the shite. So now I am diving head first into Node.js, mongodb, angular, all that stuff, trying to create an apache Cordova mobile app. I've got a VPS that runs Ubuntu. It is really great to be able to get a VPS for so cheap these days, no more expensive than the crappy shared hosting plans, really.

Hey everyone! I finally am on Arch Linux. After five years of using Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Gnome 3, KDE, Manjaro, and Antergos, I successfully installed Arch and I'm loving it! I've been running it for about a month and I've had no major problems. The community is very helpful and the wiki is amazing. Thanks for everything guys, this OS is awesome.

AMEN!! Any time that I run Windows, I just look at it and scowl...My laptop dual boots Arch and Windows 7 but I have started to hate Windows with a passion. Anyways, welcome to Arch Linux!

Hi,

I have been using Linux for quite some time, started out with Ubuntu, mint etc.
Since i bought an older thinkpad x60t i decided to go for arch (So i can build my system brick by brick), i also run Linux on my desktop at work.

I like the fact that you can truly learn the Linux of things by installing and using arch.

I'm a developer for a big company, i currently do a lot of java and php.

I hope to become an asset to this forum !

Hello.

I have been a 100% Linux user for almost 2 years. Before that I was using it alongside Windows (and trying to learn it of course!) for approximately 6 years. I eventually ditched Windows because Linux has worked so much better for me. (and I will say it proudly: I HATE WINDOWS!)

The sole distro I've been using is Debian Stable. I've been happy with it, mainly because of stability and the large package repository. However when I got a new laptop a few weeks ago I decided to try dual booting another distro with Debian. I chose Arch Linux because 1) I thought it would be a good learning experience for me (as an amateur/intermediate/not-really-an-expert Linux user) and 2) I wanted a secondary distro with the latest "bleeding edge" software, to compliment my primary Debian install, which can be there for more serious tasks because of its advantage in stability.

I'm happy to say that I've succeeded in setting up the dual boot and I now have Arch Linux up and running. I've been liking it so far, so I decided to join the forum in case I wanted to chime in some discussions or ask questions.

Hello, just another Arch Linux newbie here (former Manjaro/Linux Mint/Debian/Fedora/Ubuntu user, used Linux for 10 years). Decided to give Arch a try because I wanted to learn more and tackle a challenge. I installed Arch over the weekend and had just now got my laptop to where I want it to be. To those that maintain the wiki, thank you all very very much! I couldn't have done it without the wiki being so well written and educational! :-)

AFAIK from the ArchMaps, I am the most northern Arch user (69.67 N). Started with Arch only 2 weeks ago, really happy with it.

So... Instead of a CPU fan, do you actually need a heater inside your computer to keep it from freezing?

Though Arch-Linux is based in Canada, so I would imagine there are a lot of people who use it that are pretty far north. Being the farthest north is an achievement.

(I know, this all depends on context and technically everybody above the equator is from the north. It is just funny that the north in the US is south of Milan, which is considered to be south in Europe.)

I am not exactly new to arch; i have been here for two to three years now after about one year of ubuntu.

All my systems are running arch linux, the only exception is one lonely vm with windows 7 in it that i use for testing purposes.

I love arch for its minimalism, efficiency great documentation and community.

I study computer science in austria.

Hi Arch community! I just installed Arch a few days ago and I'm really liking it. I've used Red Hat, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint and openSUSE. Arch is already my favorite Linux distro that I have tried so far. I love how minimalistic it is and how customizable it is. I'm brand new to the community but I've already heard about how great it is. So that's another thing I'm excited about. Good to be here!

I have used Arch for a long time now, and was an active member of the freenode channel for a while some five years ago.

I started using Arch because it promised me to be as flexible as I would ever want. Also, its rolling release system was something I was looking forward.

To this point, it has not yet disappointed me. Also, the community is kind and I find everyone very knowledgeable about almost everything.

Today I made my mind of joining the forums, and maybe taking a more active part in the community. We'll see how it goes.
