problem booting 2.6.16

Well after a painless upgrade to 2.6.16 on my laptop, I updated my desktop. This time it was NOT painless.
When booting, after it reaches "loading udev events", modprobe throws a fit and scrolls a HUGE amount of text and numbers. My sound card doesn't work, neither does my network. It also complains about being unable to mount /proc and /sys...
Here is my dmesg: http://arch.pastebin.com/638612

please help...

[EDIT] this upgrade has rendered my machine nearly unbootable...

Re: problem booting 2.6.16

Are you using LILO in that system?

Re: problem booting 2.6.16

Are you aware of this:

---------------
* Requirements:
---------------
- You need a kernel >=2.6.15 for this udev to work properly.
- No more DevFS device paths!  If you have them, update /etc/fstab:
  /dev/discs/... etc. has been deprecated in favor of the old style:
    /dev/discs/disc0/part1 -> /dev/hda1  <--  I think this does not apply
    /dev/discs/disc1/part2 -> /dev/hdb2  <-- to your case.
- /etc/modprobe.conf should be cleaned from old install entries (see below).
- Custom kernel users using versions <2.6.16 need a uevent patch from ABS.

Re: problem booting 2.6.16

Yeah..
I don't have any devfs, modprobe is clean, and I am using a stock kernel.
Everything was running perfectly with 2.6.15. I think the problem has something to do with a resource conflict. (see lines 318 - 352 of my dmesg in OP)

Re: problem booting 2.6.16

I think the errors in lines 318 and further are related to the fact that you do not have /sys mounted (or recognized).
I'm inlclined to believe the errors are related to changes made by Udev.
I'll take a look at my system, see what I can find. I just upgraded.
