Steam problem with new nvidia driver.

Hi all.
Today, I had some problems with my old driver video (xf86-video-nouveau) so i decided to install the proprietary nvidia-304xx... All good... But if I run steam i get this output:

$ steam
Running Steam on arch 4.0.7-2-ARCH 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1433441724)

And nothing happened.... What should I do for fix problem? Have you any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Steam problem with new nvidia driver.

Hi Allexj,

It's really hard to see what really is the matter unless you post some more info about your computer. One suggestion is to also download the lib32 binaries for the respective nvidia driver. This should work because I use steam with the nvidia 340 drivers also.

Thanks for the answer. I was able to fix the problem. You advise me to install the correct version of lib32 nvidia driver. I check if the version is correct and I saw that in my system were installed

lib32-nvidia-libgl and lib32-nvidia-utils

so I removed them with

pacman -Rsc lib32-nvidia-libgl lib32-nvidia-utils

and I installed the correct version:

pacman -S lib32-nvidia-304xx-libgl lib32-nvidia-304xx-utils

Now steam "starts". I put it in quotes because the previous problem there is no more, but if i write steam in the terminal I receive a number of errors practically equal, all linked to the opening of this file: surface_opengl.cpp
Now i put here one of them:

/home/buildbot/buildslave_steam/steam_rel_client_ubuntu12_linux/build/src/vgui2/src/surface_opengl.cpp (563) : Assertion Failed: glIsTexture( id )
Steam: An X Error occurred
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 155
Resource id in failed request: 0x3a00008
Serial number of failed request: 4438
xerror_handler: X failed, continuing

OMG I don't know what i should do. However thanks sesese9. I hope that someone can help me D:

Re: Steam problem with new nvidia driver.

I never had that kind of error but you did make sure that the drivers are all 304 right? Sometimes you can end up mixing the versions up. Make sure you have both lib32 and regular versions because steam needs it. Also look are the nvidia page on the wiki for more help! Hope this helps you!
