I've been circumventing the problem with flashplugin on Firefox by following the instructions on this page:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Br … er_upgrade
... but those instructions stopped working for some reason. I know there's lightspark, gnash and some have recommended freshplayerplugin from the AUR. Wanted to see if there are any other workarounds before ditching flash player.

May as well move to something else; it has been EOL'ed https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p946

Yea, might as well. Thanks!
Anybody care to share your thoughts on what are some good alternatives for playing youtube videos...

For YouTube, forget flash, use HTML5

TBH, I thought devs were still working out some quirks in HTML5, but seems to work pretty smoothly. Well, I guess that solves my problem! Thanks.

https://github.com/mps-youtube/mps-youtube
It is in the Community repo should you wish to check it out, i highly recommend. Also ' mpv <youtube URL> ' will play you tube videos, provided youtube-dl is installed.

Thanks for the suggestion, cirrus. I do have youtube-dl installed; I needed to d/l a few videos a while back. Before Scimmia suggested HTML5 I tried Gnash- huge file, didn't install, aborted with errors- I'm just glad I don't have to deal with flash anymore.
