International Font Problem with KDE Apps

International charactars only show up as squares in my KDE apps, while working fine in Gnome.

(see this screenshot for an example)

A possible clue is the way many KDE apps when run from the terminal tend to report "kcontrol: WARNING: KLocale: trying to look up "" in catalog. Fix the program" occasionally.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I use KDE and Amarok has a problem to show correct iso-8859-2 fonts. I don't know when this happened.

The only partial solution that I've found to this same problem was to change my LOCALE in rc.conf from UTF-8 to ISO8859-1, but now there are console apps that show bad chars with á é í, etc...

Any other ideas?

Re: International Font Problem with KDE Apps

What fonts do you guys have installed? Just give a list of /usr/share/fonts or whatnot.

FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi"
        FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/artwiz-fonts"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF"

Fonts which I have in the path I have installed.
My locale.gen is:

en_US.UTF8 UTF8
# de_DE ISO-8859-1
# de_DE@euro ISO-8859-15
#
# The locale-gen command will generate all the locales,
# placing them in /usr/lib/locale.

# locale -a
 en_US.UTF8

..and I have yes-bitmats

Re: International Font Problem with KDE Apps

pacman -Qs fonts return:
local/fontsproto 2.0.2-1
local/gsfonts 8.11-3
local/t1lib 5.1.0-2
local/ttf-bitstream-vera 1.10-3
local/ttf-cheapskate 2.0-4
local/ttf-ms-fonts 1.3-7
local/xorg-fonts-75dpi 1.0.0-2
local/xorg-fonts-alias 1.0.1-1
local/xorg-fonts-encodings 1.0.0-1
local/xorg-fonts-misc 1.0.0-2

locale -a return:
C
POSIX
en_US
en_US.iso88591
en_US.utf8
es_VE
es_VE.iso88591
es_VE.utf8

I'm not sure what are doing C and POSIX there¿?
