I want install arch on a machine with sata devices only. The hdds and dvds are controlled by a set of promise sata2 300 tx4 cards. While the factory supports linux and has released open source drivers, they are not yet part of arch's kernels.

Could someone help me how to proceed. As far as I can see, it is a catch 22. I'ld need the driver to have a hdd device at all, so I could recieve kernel sources and compile them. On the other hand, without a kernel supporting the device, I could not store any sources to compile them.

No floppy built in? How about building a custom iso? There's a section in our wiki ;-)
I guess we will not see 3rd party drivers in the stock kernel even when they're open source.

You should submit this as a feature request on the bugtracker. If the driver is open source, there will be no problem in providing it as a separate package or as part of kernel26 (and later including it in the next installer).

boot from a liveCD and perform an installation from that using the instructions on hte wiki on how to install from a host system.
