Using ALSA, when I plug my headphones in, it doesn't mute the speakers or unmute the headphones, i.e. the music just keeps playing through the speakers.
My /etc/asound.conf is:
defaults.pcm.card 1
defaults.pcm.device 0
defaults.ctl.card 1If I manually mute the speakers, it works as expected.
If I manually unmute the headphones, it works as expected.
How can I get the computer to do this automatically when I plug the headphones in?

Welcome to Arch Linux. Can you tell us a bit more about your system? What is your specific hardware. This includes the codec. For example, Intel HD audio provides a serial link to audio codec chips that generate the actual output (HDMI, Stereo Analog, 5.1, etc...)

Hi,
The machine is a MacBook Air 6,2.
Alsamixer identifies the card as a HDA Intel PCH, with a Cirrus Logic CS4208 chip.
I believe this to be correct, as it's the same chipset that was detected on my Debian install (which did have working plug & play audio jack, though that used pulse).

My first suggestion would be to run alsamixer from a command line, use F6 to select the Intel Analog sound card, find the setting "Auto mute" and change it. On my system, it wants to be off.
I don't have access to a MBA, so I cannot try my suggestions on real hardware ![]()
