Hello everyone,
I'm running into difficulty with ibus. Though the ibus icon for my input method (Chinese, pinyin) is there in the system tray, I cannot input Chinese at all, the system behaves as if ibus is not started.
However, in GNOME, everything works as expected.
I have ibus 1.5.4 and ibus-pinyin installed and ibus configured with ibus-setup, and I have the added the exports to ~/.bashrc as suggested.
Help please.
TIA

Export in ~/.bashrc will NOT work. Do that in your X session init file instead.
See here[1][2] for more detail.

Thanks for your reply, but the problem persists.
I have installed fcitx as instructed but it doesn't seem to help. fcitx has completely no effect in gedit. In kate, fcitx's input box does show up, but the Chinese characters fail to get to the kate window.
The problem with ibus seems to be that it is not receiving keyboard input. It is not responding even to input method switching hotkey.
