Hello,
I'm new to Arch and loving it so far apart from my sound has suddenly decided to stop working. No idea what I have done but any help would be much appreciated.
Most recent thing I have done was install spotify-beta from AUR4 via Yaourt.
To help speed things up in regards of the sound see http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=04d27 … c3a7272373
The output of
lspci -nn
is:

have you tried playing around with amixer?
type amixer in console.
Offline
amixer gives me the following output:
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on]
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',1
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on]
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',2
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on]
alsamixer shows everything is not muted and should be outputting sound but nothing is.

Looks like HDMI has decided to become the default on your system. The ALSA wiki page has information about this.

When posting configs, code or command output, please use [ code ] tags, not [ quote ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode
like this
It makes the code more readable and - in case of longer listings - more convenient to scroll through.

Solved the issue:
Run: cat /proc/asound/modules Gives me the following output:
0 snd_hda_intel
1 snd_hda_intel
Identify the card and device number with
aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC3661 Analog [ALC3661 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
so in my case card was 1 and device was 0
Create asound.conf in /etc:
sudo touch /etc/asound.conf
Enter the following in asound.conf:
defaults.pcm.card 1
defaults.pcm.device 0
defaults.ctl.card 1
Where card and device are yours identified from step 1.
Save file and reboot for changes to take affect
--- Update ---
via /usr/share/alsa/alsa.cong
Run: cat /proc/asound/modules Gives me the following output:
0 snd_hda_intel
1 snd_hda_intel
Identify the card and device number with
aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC3661 Analog [ALC3661 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
so in my case card was 1 and device was 0
Open asound.conf in /usr/share/alsa:
sudo vim /usr/share/alsa/asound.conf
Find the lines defaults.ctl.card and defaults.pcm.device. Change values to the ones found save and close
Reboot
