Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Some snapwm news.

Fixed up the bar not starting on primary monitor sometimes and added the option in rc.conf to pick what desktops the bar is shown on or not.
To have the bar not shown on desktop 3:

SHOW_BAR 0;0;1;0; ...(for all the desktops)

and in rc.conf WNAMEBG (the colour of the background for the focused windows' name in the bar) now takes it's colour from the SWITCHERTHEME colours instead of STATUSTHEME colours so it is limited to five if you have a colour for the urgency hints.

Cheers

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Some snapwm news.

I've added the option to have useless gaps for the tiling modes.
Two new entries in rc.conf:
UG_OUT is the distance from the screen edge to the windows
UG_IN is the distance between windows
Distance is in pixels

UG_OUT 10
UG_IN 15

If you don't want useless gaps don't set them in the conf.

SHOW_BAR now can be one value for all desktops or ALL desktops must be given a value

Cheers

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Hey,

The new gaps are awesome! Thanks a bunch.
I have an issue with the bar - it doesn't seem to draw?

From my right monitor: http://i.imgur.com/PDOS64C.png
I have TOPBAR and BAR_MONITOR set to 1.
Snapwm doesn't seem to spit out any errors, any idea what could be causing this?

EDIT: Seems it works normally when using BAR_MONITOR 0. Could this be related to the new per-desktop SHOW_BAR option?

EDIT2: Seems windows are completely broken on multi-monitor setups (except for the primary monitor). Closed applications don't get removed from the stack (still counting as invisible windows).
EDIT3: Setting TOPSTACK from 0 to 1 fixed the broken window space allocations, but the bar is still invisible. Using an older build for now (without gaps).

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Things do seem to be in a right mess with the bar on the second monitor. Thanks for pointing that out.
I'll see if I can fix it today

Try an update now. It was a simple fix, just had to pull my head a little further out of my arse.
Apologies for that.

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Hmm, still having the same issue.
I have SHOWBAR set to just "0", but windows seem to take up my entire monitor. I have a keybind mapped to show/hide the bar, and hiding it(?) shows a transparent line at the bottom, the showing(?) it again makes it go away.

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

I'm sure the issue is similar but not the same.
I had to change a 1 to a 0 in readrc.c.
An update now should fix it.
I am an optimist big_smile

The issues stem from the "fix" I mentioned in post #651

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

It works now, thanks a bunch!

A while back I reported a font (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/bdf-tewi-git/) not working, did you ever look into what could be causing it?
I've been unable to find any other terminus-like font with decent unicode support.

I'm using a mix of other fonts now which is working nicely, but things like MPD statuses get messy with i.e. Japanese symbols:
oIJhI9U.png
The same output looks like this in urxvt (using tewi):

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

At that time I didn't have a net connection and was using maccas' shit wifi...
Then I forgot about that issue.
I'll have a look at it over the weekend and see what's up.

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

@frash23 all the fonts I have here are .pcf
from the tewi font github page:

(optional) run make pcfs if you want .pcf format fonts

Tried doing that?

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

I've tried both bdf and pcf, yes.

EDIT: On a sidenote, it seems bdf fonts work fine with the bar (just not tewi).

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Here tewi font doesn't write anything to the bar at all. Nothing, nilch, zip, nada. That's on 2 systems.
It works ok in urxvtc but tewi2a and tewifw don't, they're just a garbled mess.
I installed a couple of different fonts to make sure my way of setting up fonts isn't the issue and they worked ok.
urxvt has sooooo many loc for dealing with fonts that I gave up trying to sort through them, all that work isn't relevant for a light window manager just to have one particular font working in the bar.
As you said, bdf fonts work ok except tewi so it's obvious to me that Lucy has some more work to do on her font.
I'm not interested in fixing a font.

Cheers

Yeah, just wanted to know if it was a small thing to fix or not. terminusmod & stlarch are doing a fine job for me.

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Some snapwm news.

I've changed the way transient windows are managed which has had some ancillary benefits.

Fullscreen mode is working better.
A tiled window can be popped out with a keyboard shortcut and moved around with the mouse or keyboard. It will stay on top floating until it is popped back. It will stay floating if sent to other desktops.

KEY Alt;r;pop_window;

A window can be set to be floating when opened from the apps.conf file.

# Set an application to be floating no matter the tiling mode
# USAGE :
# POPPED WM_CLASS/WM_NAME
#
# POPPED Thunar

Because nothings more useless than useless gaps lets have more of them, there's an option in rc.conf to set useless gaps around the bar

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Some snapwm news.

There were some window mapping issues with the recent change: floating window order; windows that just get unmapped not destroyed; windows that are removed on an unfocused visible desktop on an unfocused screen. I've fixed them and everything seems pretty smooth now. The code is easier to work with too.

Cheers

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

I cant build snapwm anymore even though I am doing what I always did !
I always just git cloned,  then cd into the dir  then  make
I never bothered with installing as I just copied the snapwm to my ~/bin folder and then in .xinitrc

while true
            do
            xsetroot -name "$(date +"%a %b %d %H:%M")"
            sleep 1s
            done &
            exec /home/dka/bin/startup-apps &
            exec /home/dka/bin/snapwm;;

this always worked before but now I just get thrown back to the login screen and have to choose another wm to login with.
ok I tried removing the xsetroot date line from .xinitrc then it works but I would like to have the date and time shown in the bar.
Also the bar doesn't get displayed on startup even though the setting is the same as before
# Show the bar at startup? 0=yes,1=no
SHOW_BAR 0
so I have to press the keyboard shortcut to show the bar.
Unfortunately my trayer doesn't show anymore either but I see in htop it is running.

When I used the make command this is all that was displayed in terminal

gcc -g -std=c99 -pedantic -Wall -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -c -o snapwm.o snapwm.c

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

The build chain has had a change it seems. It's nothing you or I have done. I use a function called strdup which needs _BSD_SOURCE set but it looks like the build fails in an unfriendly way with that.
You could try changing line 24 in snapwm.c from
#define _BSD_SOURCE
to
#define _DEFAULT_SOURCE
and see if it builds and works.

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Sorry for late reply,
Yes to using Arch, no to using testing.
I have never used Bsd so was confused by that message.
I will try  with latest source now, thanks.

Tried with latest Nextwm source, it built with no errors abt BSD but the result is the same, I have to edit .xinitrc and take out the
xsetroot -name  "$(date +"%a %b %d %H:%M")"
then it will start but not show the bar until I press the keyboard shortcut, and trayer doesn't show which ran fine with previous build. Apart from that it seems to work.

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

Looking at your .xinitrc above you have two exec's in it.
The window manager line should be the only one exec'ed.
See if that helps.

edit: and fix your indentations up it looks messy

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

didn't think it would be having 2 exec commands as it works with 15 other window managers and the older snapwm.
I took it out anyway but no difference.
Still I am happy user the older snapwm .

Re: dminiwm snapwm & bipolarbar

You should check out why exec should only be used once in a script, there's plenty of info on the net.
You are right about xsetroot being an issue. Should be fixed now.

Cheers
