new kernel - system freezes (artsd?)

i've been using arch for a long time now and this was the first time it my comp freezed:

i did a pacman -Syu and then kde didn't start.
but by reinstalling the newest nvidia driver it worked again.
so i was working in kde when the system freezed completely (2 times).
i think it has to do something with the sound cause both times i did something with xmms when this happend.
any ideas?

Re: new kernel - system freezes (artsd?)

It could be a dependency problem rather than a kernel issue .. which version of KDE are you using?

You might be able to check console 1 during the next freeze and see if there are any errors apparent there.

I meant switching to console 1 (type control-alt-f1).  Still, if the entire system is frozen that probably won't work.  Why don't you reboot and post your dmesg?  If it's a kernel issue after all there might be some hints there.

[edit]
so it seems my system crashes cause of flash in firefox conflicts with other applications that play sounds...
any workaround beside deinstalling flash?
