[solved] html5 video playback mostly not working (firefox)

Videos played through HTML5 player mostly don't work on firefox. Chrome works without a problem.

On youtube, some videos work, others produce steady "beep" instead of audio. Sometimes I see green screen instead of video. Which videos work and which don't is consistent (ie. the same video produces the same result every time I check).
Vimeo - no video or audio. After I click the play button, there's usually just black screen and no audio at all.

My browser supports everything on the "youtube player selection page", ie. everything is green.

I use the integrated intel gpu.

$ pacman -Si firefox | grep Version
Version        : 39.0-1

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)

$ lscpu | grep "Model name:"
Model name:            Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz

I've tried starting firefox without plugins enabled, didn't help. I have very little experience with troubleshooting multimedia problems, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem mysteriously resolved itself after uninstalling everything mozilla related and installing again.
