I use AUR to build the libretro cores, which can be quite time consuming.
In Retroarch itself I can download libretro cores with a single tap, which get stored in my home directory in a few seconds.
The emulator versions seem to quite similar, as far I can see with a few example tests, not sure about git versions.
What is the benefit of building the cores with AUR then the Retroarch downloaded versions?
Thanks.

I think the ones downloaded in retroarch are ultimately nightly builds as well so you should be fine either way, not 100% sure though

This are the two update urls retroarch uses. They seem to be nightly as you said.
http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/li … 64/latest/
http://buildbot.libretro.com/assets/

It could potentially be a problem if there's a soname bump in arch and one of the cores has a dependency that isn't up to date on the buildbot, but afaik
A) The cores are designed to have pretty much no outside dependencies from libretro iirc
B) Afaik a few of the devs use Arch as well so something like this would probably be noticed
