Broken Console Keymap?

hey all, something happened fairly recently (with maybe.. the last month) that caused keys such as backspace & tab to print inverse-question-mark on the console screen.

My configs haven't changed, this simply started happening both on new installs and existing systems.

A point in the right direction please? Apologies if this has already been addressed somewhere, I couldn't find it with google though.

Fixed. My previous /etc/vconsole.conf was:

KEYMAP=us
FONT=lat9w-16
FONT_MAP=8859-1_to_uni

The solution:

rm -f /etc/vconsole.conf
