I use a lot of KeePass's auto-type feature. Since I completely use GNU/Linux, I can't use the auto-type.
I've installed the xdotoll and xsel and still the problem exists.
The Tools-Options-Intergration box is locked at the necessary settings and I can't find a solution.
I don't want to use KeePassX, only as a very last option.

Why? It works far better in Linux than the mono port, and you can use the kdb1 format in Windows/OS X as well.

Is there a way to make KeePassX auto fill credentials in browsers? As far as I can tell there is no way.

Yes, by defining a global shortcut. Not sure why things should be more complicated.

A modified KeePassX2 exists that supports KeepassHttp and therefore PassiFox/Chromeipass. KeepassX 2 is now labeled as beta and should be mostly safe, but I'd still keep a database backup around.

There is a discussion about merging it into the official codebase, but there are some licensing issues and some concerns about clean code and commit history.

Unfortunately KeePassX is almost "dead".
I was recommended to take a look at KeePassXC. It is a community fork that "reboots" the development of KeePassX.
It is cross-platform, works only on 64 bit system and for my need the auto-type feature works out of the box. It has more features than KeePassX and fewer than KeePass.
As for now it is the best cross platform compatible password manager as KeePassX should be.
The Arch repository has it in the community repo.

The provided way is to put your cursor in the Username field of the web page, go to the Keepass window and, with the correct entry selected, type Ctrl-v. This is said to be more secure than copy and paste. However, for me, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I suppose it has something to do with the designs of the various web pages.
