I've switched to Radeon drivers from Catalyst for my HD5850 and I'm finding I get much better desktop performance, and while I haven't done extensive 3D tests I haven't noticed any drop in performance. However, I'm finding that my display doesn't switch back on once I resume from suspend. I can still interact with my computer but I get no video out at all. I get the same behaviour whether X is started or not. Ideas?
e: might be worth mentioning that I'm using displayport

I've read about people having the same issue on laptops with dual GPUs but their solutions don't seem applicable to my issue.
I've noticed a couple of strange quirks besides the suspend issue. If I leave my monitor off as my PC is booting up then switch it on later (I don't have a display manager so it's just waiting at the Arch login prompt) I have the same issue, full interactivity but no video displayed at all. Also, if I switch off my display while I have MPD playing audio, the audio begins skipping as if the buffer isn't large enough. I get the same issue if I play music, suspend and then resume. I know that displayport monitors aren't detected if they're switched off, so if this unrelated bug is present in both the "video working, display off" and "video broken, display on" situations, is this perhaps something to do with the way displays are detected? Re-plugging the cable doesn't seem to help, though.
edit: the "fix" was to use HDMI rather than mini DisplayPort. Not really a fix if you need anything more than 1080p but clearly it's an issue with detection of the monitor.
