Apple keyboard - function keys

So I am relatively new to Arch Linux and I have it up and running on my Mac Mini. The function keys aren't working, so I did a bit of googling and found this nice page which addresses this exact issue. So far so good.

Except when I type the following as root, there is no such file or directory:
# echo 2 > /sys/module/hid_apple/parameters/fnmode

Okay, on to option #2.

When I type the following as root, it says "Permission denied":
# echo 2 > /sys/module/hid/parameters/pb_fnmode

I am not sure what to do next as these are the only options provided and neither worked for me. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I totally rebooted the computer and signed in as root and it still says "Permission denied". Is there a way to fix this? Or another way to get the function keys working on my Apple keyboard?

Re: Apple keyboard - function keys

I have this same problem. This is missing from my setup, too.

I recently installed Arch Linux on a Macbook Pro 13 in Retina 12,1. I am running 4.1.3-1-ARCH and KDE Plasma 5. I installed SicVolo's patch which is supposed to fix the "fn" key issues. However, it seems to depend on the hid_apple driver. (https://github.com/SicVolo/hid-apple-4.1.2)

Any ideas? I can't find a way to download the driver anywhere. Thanks.
