I've tried Plasma 5 and just don't care for it. Not sure what it is, but I prefer KDE4 over Plasma 5. That being said I think I read somewhere that support for KDE4 will be dropped soon and that our only choice for the KDE desktop would be Plasma 5. is this true? When I upgraded my system to Plasma 5 to give it a shot, it just didn't click with me.
Side question in regards to installing KDE4, as its been a while. If I install KDE (pacman -S kde) I just get the KDE system and nothing else as opposed to installing kdebase which comes with dolphin, konqueror, etc, right? I've read the wiki and the -meta groups sort of confuse me in terms of how they operate. So if I want just a base KDE installation I'd just install kde and if I wanted some of its base packages with it i'd isntall kdebase, right?

The kde group doesn't exist anymore. Install kdebase-workspace for the desktop, kde-applications for applications.

Yes
So whether there is no any option to keep 4th KDE in my system? Maybe is there any snapshot machine or may I build it locally using a snapshot of the ABS or are there any other variants? I don't like plasma 5 too...

Yes, you can keep it for as long as you want, nobody is going to remove it from your system. But it will be your responsibility to rebuild it when some dependency bumps the soname, and sooner or later there will be some API change in a dependency that will require fixing the code, and at that point you're on your own.

Tend to agree. It is always a problem moving from a stable environment to a new and therefore less stable one. For myself I have seen memory leaks, loss of system tray icons etc with the transition to Plasma 5
I am in the process of moving to XFCE4. Strangely it seems to be faster, and runs all the great kde apps that I need,
Just a thought :-)

Why "strangely"? It is lessweight than KDE. I am thinking about Mate also.

KDE4 was getting very optimized and light on resources by 4.14 (with the patched akonadi).
The trend however shifted towards UIs written with QML/JS. That's why Gnome-shell and plasma5 are heavy and consume more memory as you run them. There is no easy way to improve that. It is like running a web browser.
I used to run KDE4 for weeks without logging out and no memory increase at all.
Xfce is plain gtk+. That's why it is "lightweight". A plain Qt5 DE (written in C++ without QML) would probably be as fast if not faster.
KDE just wanted QML since they are working on plasma for mobile as well. That will eventually trigger a point where they will be forced to improve plasma5 resource usage since you cannot "log off" to free resources on mobile phones.

for me the only problem with plasma 5 is the default theme, it's too "flat", a GUI with flat design like android 5 or windows 8,
someone has created an oxygen theme in order to have the same look and feel like KDE4 in plasma 5 but the result is not very good, there are some bugs and graphical problems

This isn't true just look at Jolla-Phone, QML for UI Stuff is prettty fast. Nonone writes heavy logics with QML.
LXQt uses KF5 in some parts too and maybe QML then.

The memory leaks should be mostly fixed in plasma 5.3 and plasma 5.4 (to be released this month). Unless you use a plasmoid which has a leak but that can be easily solved. The loss of tray icons can be worked around: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KD … n_Plasma_5

But I don't want to look for works around, I want to use my system.

Fast for sure but not efficient on memory usage. Nevertheless I will give KDE another try when plasma 5.4 is released.

Have you looked into Kubuntu? 14.04 is still KDE4.

Yes, but I prefer the Arch because of its rolling release system.
By the way is there any script or something like that to build packages with its dependencies from ABS?

Yes, PKGBUILD

I see this, but I have meant if I have a snapshot of the ABS' sources (I mean that which I can get using the abs command) on some date and I want to build some package A which depends on a package B which in turn has a newer version (or even dropped) at present time then how can I (if I can) to build automatically packages A and B using my local snapshot of the ABS? Or maybe is there a repository which holds a snapshots of the binary repositories of the Arch (some time ago I heard about something like this)?

This is the repository with a history of snapshots for the binary packages:

Hm I don't got this issue really. Only with whatsup with has issue loading large conversations parallel.
I think Whatsup uses QML wrong here. it's not meant for large data.
