I'm trying to monitor realtime discharge rate in watts. I have a laptop, can I check it without installing any additional packages?

Look into
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0 there should be something 'power_now' where your current power usage of the battery is stored.
This is handled by acpi
I put at button on it. Yes. I wish to press it, but I'm not sure what will happen if I do. (Gune | Titan A.E.)

On my systems it's in that directory under the file 'energy_now'. Take multiple readings at known time intervals and you can calculate watts.
EDIT: although I don't know the units on the energy meaures - my numbers seem far to high to be joules, it seems of the right order to be mJ, but that's just a guess.
