fail2ban

today i installed fail2ban but it failed to work
i followed the wiki article and have no error messages while installing and launching.
but when i log in over ssh with wrong passwords i get no ban.
does anyone have suggestions why fail2ban doenst do his job?

(i tried all fail2ban version, from core to community testing)
