[SOLVED] How to regain the 1GB buffer from the Resizing LVM-on-LUKS?

In this wiki article it's explained how to safely resize logical volumes.

In these instructions we're told to first resize the filesystem and to resize by at least 1GB more than the actual desired resize and then resize the logical volume by that 1GB less as to avoid any corruption.

The article however doesn't describe how and if it's ever possible to regain that 1GB buffer back.

Is it safe to afterwards do a resize2fs and increase the filesystem by 1GB?

Sort of an after-question but once I get a conclusive answer, am I allowed to edit the wiki and add this information in there myself? I think it would be highly useful for other users.

Thanks in advance!

Original wiki page author here -

I took _very_ liberal buffers when I wrote that article. Theoretically, you don't need buffers at all, but I'm not 100% positive there aren't any padding issues *at all*. You can try taking more restricted buffers like 1M in each step, just to be on the safe side, I believe that will work as well.

Let us know how it goes! smile

Make sure you backup everything before you start, otherwise if something doesn't work as expected you can say goodbye to your data.

Many thanks for the replies!

I managed to resize2fs back to the full size of the underlying logical volume without a hitch smile

Fairly straightforward process. Will add it to the wiki.
