why ls always show subdirectory count of 1?

ls -l ~

result:

drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 274 Aug 10 15:13 directory_0

drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 290 Aug 10 09:41 directory_2
drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 148 Aug 10 02:24 directory_3
drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 148 Aug 10 02:24 directory_4
drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 148 Aug 10 02:24 directory_5
drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 148 Aug 10 02:24 directory_6
drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 148 Aug 10 02:24 directory_7
drwxr-xr-x 1 cz cz 148 Aug 10 02:24 directory_8

you have 1 hard link for each of the name displayed ....

you might find this link helpfull ... counting and listing hard links on Linux
