No Longer Able to Log Into Server After SSH Update

So.....I just updated openSSH on a remote server and seem to have lost access to it after restarting SSHD. I had actually read the message on the main page beforehand, but figured I was fine since I always use password authentication...

If you have any [DSA keys], ensure you have alternative means of logging in, such as key pairs of a different type, or password authentication.

However, the server now seems to be rejecting my password whenever I try to use it. Am I missing something? Is there any way to fix this without accessing the machine directly? Thanks.

Hmm..  It looks like the solution there requires a non-root account. Unfortunately there is only a root account on my server... Any other ideas?

If you only have a root account, then you need physical access.
