Hi all!

Just today I managed to get a working Arch install. After previously using Linux for about 2-3 years on and off, I felt like I was finally ready to recreate my Linux partition but with Arch instead of Ubuntu. Right now, I'm running XFCE4 with a Numix icon-pack and the Arc-Dark theme. It's great. The AUR and official repos are - in my use - leaps and bounds better than Ubuntus repositories and I've been able to install pretty much everything without even having to lookup a guide or go to the applications website.

Hello everyone!

I used Debian for about 2 years, and decided to install Arch Linux because Debian testing was too unstable at that moment.
After using for few days in virtual machine, I thought Arch is better / more convenient to use, so I installed it on main PC.
Installation was pretty hard to do, but after I installed base packages, it's really great

Hi,

I am not new to Arch Linux, but new to this forum today.

Using the best configurable Operating System since about two years on hardware from 2006 !
Other Linux distributions were much slower than my actual configuration without graphical user interface
for everything.

Arch Linux is the first distribution, that I dont want to uninstall.

I hope that I can help other user users in this forum or to get help from here.

Hello!

I decided to switch to Arch after using Fedora dual-booted with Windows for a year or so. I didn't like Fedora too much, so I decided to switch to something else after getting my new laptop. So far, I quite like it, and the installation process taught me a lot more about Linux. I hope I will be able to contribute to Arch and the forum in some way!

Hey everyone!

I'm Semirix! I've used Arch in the past with dual booted windows but recently I purchased a laptop just for Arch. I've setup a pure bootctl UEFI boot and installed DWM with my heavy customisations and my laptop is now in order to do lots of work. I hope I can contribute to the forums in some way! I hope to see every one of your faces around here at some point

Hello archers, or whatever we call ourselves. First, my name is Ben, despite a meaningless letter jumble of a handle.

I don't particularly like computers, I just want them to work. Failing that, I just want the computer to not do mean things I didn't tell it to do. Arch, though weak on the first one, is the only OS I've ever used to deliver on the 2nd one, and for that I am grateful.

As you might have worked out from that sad avatar, I spend considerably more time cycling than I do making computer art.

I've been using Arch for years, but I've never commented on the forum before a few days ago. I've always been a bit intimidated by the expectation of knowing the appropriate output, logs, and confs to include in questions. I have a brother, bdjnk, also an arch user, who helped me in the early stages. Later I became more reliant on google and experimentation. Now I feel like I've reached the point where my passivity has become silly.

I hope to participate in many useful threads

Hi everyone,

I'm quite newbie to Arch, but have some experience with Linux in general. After few years on Ubuntu and then on Debian I decided to do a step forward. So I chose this awesome distro. Currently I run Arch+Openbox+SLiM+etc. Actually some issues are still present, however I really enjoy customizing my environment. I have dual boot with M$ W7 but I spend much more time in Arch. I'm not advanced linux-ninja, I'm still learning a lot of new stuff.

Just the act of mentioning that you've been googling and experimenting has earned my respect! I'm in the same boat. I've been using Arch Linux for the better part of a year, and I only feel ready to participate now.

I second the welcome to the forums. All we ask is that one shows initiative. You clearly do. That said, we understand there are vastly different levels of knowledge and skill sets. That is okay and we don't mind helping people at all levels, provided there is a good faith effort to have worked the problem first

I've used debian since lenny and I used to think I know linux until a few days ago.
I write C#, some C and C++.
I love algorithms, security, databases and networking.
And I like being in charge of what my compooter does.

Freshly registered, I read a few messages here and they're quite inspiring, so here is my contribution.

I'm 19yo right now, French, studying computer sciences and been using Linux for about 4 years. Until yesterday, I only had a Macbook Pro (I'm not a fanboy, but not a hater either) and the only distro I managed to install on it was Ubuntu.

Bu yesterday, I bought a good ol' IBM Thinkpad, and I was thinking to myself: "Wow, I can try any distro now. Which one first?". And I settled down for Arch. Why ? I'm not sure... Maybe because it's extremely popular here in France, maybe because I'd heard of the awesome wiki and community ready to give a hand whenever I need it...

Anyway, I still have some work before having a nice computer, but until now, everything has been running more smoothly than expected (thanks to the wiki) and I'm so happy with that.

Hope to you all guys round in the forums, or in any "Arch-related" place.

this is ardor from Sweden.

I was a casual UNIX user during my university studies in the early 1990s but ended up as a Windows user after graduating (due to corporate standards). I remained a Windows user for years until I bought a laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed a few years ago. Being aware of the bad publicity of Win8 I promised myself that this time I should spend efforts reading the manual carefully and learn most of the keyboard shortcuts to give the OS a fair chance. I never learnt to cope with the tile-based layout of Windows 8 and decided that the time had come for me to part with Windows and reconnect with UNIX / LINUX. I replaced Win 8 in my laptop with Ubuntu and was happy to find that most of the UNIX commands I used in the early 1990s could still be used twenty years later. From Ubuntu, which I find is becoming increasingly bloated I migrated to LINUX MINT. I would like to take it one step further to obtain even further control of a LINUX operating system and downloaded and installed Archlinux to this end.

The Archlinux Beginners Guide is marvelous and helped me to gain an overview of the functional components of a LINUX system. I am still in Archlinux learning mode but hope to progress quickly along the learning curve and be able to share insights with fellow forum members along the way.

Hello everyone

My name is Kelaun and I am from Belgium.

I pretty much grew up with Linux (starting at the age of 6) and always loved it. I started of with Debian and switched to Ubuntu after that. In 2011 I started to use Manjaro on my main computer, but now I think it is time to switch to the real stuff and leave Manjaro.

I hope to be of some help here on the forum and also to get answers when time comes.
