bluetooth keyboard is connected but doesn't turn up as a keyboard

So I think I'm doing something stupid, I've got an apple keyboard and I'm using an Intel 7265 btusb. This is a brand new install (but the problem started a few days ago on the old box).

I connect with bluetoothctl in the usual way after enable the bluetooth service. Weird thing is I can actually get it to connect smile However I have no keyboard!

hciconfig looks ok too:

brendan@localhost ~ % hciconfig -a

But then hwdetect --keyboard doesn't show it! If I plug in a USB keyboard I can plug it and out and it works in X showing that evdev is working correctly. What am I missing here? Keyboard doesn't work in getty and on reboot I get the same behaviour. It's not out of battery since I managed to pair it by pressing the code and well it has a red light for that....
