Re: Port Fcommands from frugalware

I'd say that while some might find this a useful tool, but I'd hate to see PKGBUILDs in AUR that depended on it. Better, I think, would be to have a tool that would preprocess the PKGBUILDs using these macros and spit out a PKGBUILD using the kind of KISS commands Arch users are used to.

Re: Port Fcommands from frugalware

That would defeat the purpose completely .. The pkgbuilds will still be messy, long, and congested. And, you are doing work to first implement the commands, and then to 'de-implement' them .. smile

Re: Port Fcommands from frugalware

someone lock this stupid thread.  it's getting pointless.  if you want to use the Fcommands download fwmakepkg from their darcs repository.  look at the source code, it's just a simple bash script with a lotta sed.

Re: Port Fcommands from frugalware

Apart from you, hypermegachi, everyone here is discussing this logically and rationally. Please go and "express your opinions" (read: troll) somewhere else.

And before writing, READ. Read, and you will know that its not "just a simple bash script with a lotta[sic] sed"...

That, sir, is a load of crap. PKGBUILDs are meant to be shared. PKGBUILDs with Fcommands in them can not be shared unless you copy the entire fwmakepkg code in them. Either ALL PKGBUILDs use this (which is fairly out of the question judging from the response here), or none use it.

oh!  my apoligies.  it has grep and awk too.  i'm not saying it's useless, as i am in the camp that these F commands do make the build() look a lot cleaner.

well, then arch won't use it.  simple as that.

I thought that was rather obvious judging from this topic wink (I wouldn't actually call it a discussion, heh)

Wow, this poll redefines landslide smile big_smile sad The result is 10 : 29, but upholding TomK's request, and another person (shastry) who told me he wants to change his vote to no, its 8:31 .. LOL smile

Re: Port Fcommands from frugalware

dont ask for threads to be locked, the moderators will lock them when needed.

before the request for lock... I saw no reason to. There was a reasonable discussion. Killing a thread because of landslide poll, kills the discussion. By locking, you invalidate and ignore the discussion, and arguments of both parties.

which all due respect, iphitus, this discussion is like telling someone who uses emacs to switch to vi, and vice versa.

Looks like you cant see their point then smile

The point was, that people might like these as the original poster considered them simpler.

You might not, and that's good for you, but at least let them have their say and debate it without asking the thread to be locked.

Re: Port Fcommands from frugalware

if you read my earlier post, i am in favour of using these F commands.  but i also realize it's not feasible to force all new PKGBUILDs to be compatible with them.
