[FIXED] Linux-grsec gets stuck on Loading initial ramdisk ...

Heey all big_smile

So a while ago, I got given a laptop, lucky me right! And well, as I don't really need it for anything, I've basically just been messing around, learning - mostly things that increase one's security/privacy.

So I came across an lArchwiki article about an optional Linux kernel package - the grsecurity one. Installed it (along with the optional depends), made sure it did the mkinitcpio stuff, and just for good measure redid my grub with grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

Went ahead and rebooted, chose my new kernel in my grub screen, and... Nothing. It gets stuck on Loading initial ramdisk...

Thankfully I have the boring old regular Linux kernel installed still, and can easily just switch back to that to actually get into my laptop to mess with configurations if needed.

I've tried running the mkinitcpio -p linux-grsec just to make sure that's all done, as well as redoing grub again as above.

I run full disk encryption using LUKS and a keyfile on a USB stick - I've tried booting with and without the USB stick in just to make sure, and I still get stuck.

I've tried enabling early KMS on my Intel drivers as seen here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _early_KMS Not really sure why I tried that, but it didn't work so I've reverted it.

Has anyone else hit this issue? Has anyone FIXED this issue? I'd love some help here guys! big_smile

I see the same on a 32-bit install, problem started somewhere with a 4.1 kernel package. A 64-bit grsec kernel boots fine meanwhile. Other than having a quick look at grsecurity forums (to no avail) I have not investigated it yet.

Yeah my laptop is 32-bit! I would test it on my 64-bit desktop but I'm too lazy to mess with Nvidia drivers big_smile

Re: [FIXED] Linux-grsec gets stuck on Loading initial ramdisk ...

The issue magically fixed itself on my install with the latest 32bit linux-grsec 4.1.6.201508181953-1.
Try again yourself.

It seems the issue is magically fixed for me too using that version! big_smile

I suppose the thread is closed for now wink Cheers!
