Using old PKGBUILDs - need permission?
Well, since the new AUR came out some of my favorite packages just didn't make the transition. I am considering bringing a few over myself. I am a complete n00b when it comes to packaging however but everyone has to start somewhere. The first PKGBUILD I have in mind is "codeblocks-svn." I've looked at it, it is really as simple as it gets for a PKGBUILD. The copy I have came from downloading a snapshot of the old AUR.
My question is: do I need to seek permission to re-upload this PKGBUILD? Copyright and such. Or can I just go ahead and update the comments in it so I am the new maintainer and the previous maintainer becomes a contributor?

If the other maintainer couldn't be bothered moving it across, they have effectively orphaned it. Have at it!

Ok, thank you jasonwryan, I will get down to reading the AUR documentation.
karol, yes but the version in the repos - the last official version - is from 2013. The SVN version has two years of further commits. The Code::Blocks developers are very active but they don't do official releases all that often.

I've taken over a few packages that weren't migrated and have done exactly what you're suggesting; put myself as maintainer and changed the previous maintainer to contributor.
