Advice for partion modification?

Hi All

I need to redo the partitions on my box and I have a simple question.  I plan on backup key directories  onto a spare drive.  I would boot from CD and use tar to do this, however, the tar on the CD is from busybox (I think) and it only supports full path names with lengths up to 100 characters.  This will not due for backing up arch arch directories.  What is the best way to back up a directory tree on to a drive and copy it back with all of the correct permissions etc. from CD?

Thanks
Kev

Re: Advice for partion modification?

Hi

I solved the issue by downloading a live CD that has gnu tar as well as rsync, both of which I trust for getting permission correct.
