The new Application Dashboard widget makes my desktop unresponsive and causes plasmashell to hammer a single thread on my CPU. Tried resetting all of the plasma-related config files (plasmarc, plasmashellrc, plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc) with no luck. Not sure how to investigate this further...how do I start a plasma widget from the command line?

The kickerdash is very slow and unresponsive running in windowed mode by itself as well. Clicking it eventually opens the dash, but it takes almost 10 seconds. The opened dash is also very slow; running my mouse over the applications doesn't highlight them at all, and clicks take a long time to be registered. This is all the output I get from the terminal:

Disabling blur did not improve the responsiveness. Also tried switching from SNA to UXA to no avail. I'm running on a Haswell-based Intel NUC, so the hardware should be capable. It's strange...I tried the beta for a short time when it was in [kde-unstable] about a week ago and didn't have problems with it. I moved back to 5.3 because of other issues I was having, so I wonder if a package got tweaked somewhere.

I went ahead and reset all of the kde config files I could find and the issue has disappeared. I removed so many it's impossible to tell which one was the culprit, but if I had to guess it might be the one that stores information about recently used apps and documents. Which config file controls that information? I still have copies of my old configs so I can test.

Can any OpenVPN users confirm whether plasma-nm finally integrate well with OpenVPN without depending on gtk3?

Just installed on fresh arch install. Plasma doesn't save the current session and any entry i add on autostart gets deleted after restart.

Since KDE has nothing to do with networkmanager-openvpn i don't see were you're going with this^^

Session save/restore is not working (for KF5 Apps) according to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341930, it is Qt's fault because this https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/113901/ is still not merged.
But i haven't tested it with the patch because building Qt takes so much time... but the not ported Apps like Okular for example or non Qt Apps like Firefox should be restored.

@gbj13: try the following:
# echo "export KWIN_TRIPLE_BUFFER=1" > /etc/profile.d/kwin.sh
# chmod +x /etc/profile.d/kwin.sh
"#" means as root.

Has anyone problem with kscreen?
When I unplug my laptop from dock, DE is working, but display on laptop is black. Plugging laptop back to the dock, show screen corectly on external display.
Same problem with clean profile.

Anyone experiencing issues with kactivitymanagerd? From time to time, seemingly at random, it will spike CPU, and at the same time plasmashell will start misbehaving itself, till it finally reaches 99% CPU usage and stall entire desktop. Killing kactivitymanagerd puts everything back in place. It seems like having a KDE4/Qt4 application running for a while will cause said behaviour, but I can't confirm it with anything other than a personal feeling. Funny, this wasn't happening back when I first installed Plasma 5.4 from [kde-unstable], started about two or three days ago.

If you have some widgets using graphs (Network activity, cpu/hdd usage), those used to show that behavior. Not sure if it was fixed already.

Oh, I'm not big on widgets, I use bare minimum. I even don't use activities/virtual desktops. One thing that does come to mind is that power management is tied to each activity, and I have been using Ktorrent (Ktorrent disables power management while working). I switched to qBittorrent for now, and so far, all seems good. But we'll see in a couple of hours, as I said, spikes appear at random without any obvious reason.

Has anybody gotten kwallet-pam to work? I was looking forward to automatic wallet unlocking but can't seem to get it to work.
The package is writing into the wrong config file. Move the contents of /etc/pam.d/kde into /etc/pam.d/sddm. See b.a.o for details.
Also: Seems Plasma 5.4 takes a lot longer to load from sddm to the desktop, anybody else notice that?
Because KDE/KF/Plasma/... 5 still "matureing" I only use it in a VM. But at least in this KVM setup I also encountered this. I thought it's a problem with my setup, but "glad" to hear it's more of a Plasma problem (and will go away eventually ;-) ).

After todays update, using application dashboard makes plasma unusable. Frozen screen.
There are list of updated packages
