I don't think this has anything to do with the infinality fonts. Did you read the documentation for the plugin?

Yesterday I installed:
cairo-infinality-ultimate 1.14.2-1
fontconfig-infinality-ultimate 2.11.1-28
freetype2-infinality-ultimate 2.6-2

I also copied fonts from Windows 7 and set ms profile. Everything seem to be working, but konsole in plasma 5 is laggy. Is it a known issue? Maybe I should reconfigure something?
Second question: where can I find OSX profile?

EDIT:

I reverted to stock versions of freetype, fontconfig and cairo, rebooted and konsole works perfectly fine now. That means that there is something going on

Abaddon I've installed Konsole in Xfce4 and there are no lags whatsoever. Personally I doubt the latest update is to blame: it's merely a collection of a few bug fixes and performance tweaks (check out the upstream changelog for details). However, I'd really appreciate it if someone could confirm if there are any performance issues in Plasma.

I can't blame any update as this is my first try with infinality. I don't know if older versions behave in the same way. I retested (installed infinality once again, choosed ms profile) and result is the same - laggy konsole. I use GTX460 with latest nvidia driver if that matters.

Konsole becomes slow when I set sub pixel rendering in KDE. If it's not set everything works fine.

EDIT:
In fact combination of hinting and sub pixel rendering makes konsole slow. If only one of those is enabled it works OK.

Downgrading to fontconfig-iu-comp 2.11.1-4 corrects the problem.

owain Thank you for the info. I've been testing for a while the git version of fontconfig with all the infinality goodies applied and it seems to be working pretty well. Would you mind checking out my testing build with lilypond and reporting back if the problem persists with it, too? If you succeed, I'll make new packages available in the repo.

No DIY is necessary: just download the package for your architecture from http://bohoomil.com/src/test/. As always, back up your /etc/fonts in case you need to revert to the previous build or restore your working configuration.

Just to add to the comments about KDE earlier, Plasma 5 is generally slow and buggy. I doubt this has anything to do with fontconfig. Regarding Konsole in particular, I have not noticed any lags at all and, in particular, no recent updates to Infinality have changed its behaviour in any perceptible way. It works fine for me. I typically have 10 tabs open in Konsole at any one time, infinite scroll back for each, and switch back-and-forth between it, Firefox, Kile and Okular frequently. So I would be very likely to notice any significant decrease in performance.

I have noticed that EB Garamond now has some further font files available, including some in 8pt. Are these not yet ready for use? Or are they otherwise unsuitable candidates for the Infinality package?

It is also a bit confusing since the PKGBUILD points me to http://www.georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/ which contains information about the fonts but no downloads that I can tell. Is this intentional? I'm not sure what the URL in a PKGBUILD is meant to point to - I'd always assumed, a download URL, but I could simply be mistaken about this.

Edit We're using EB Garamond otf files from CTAN and this is the source you can find in the PKGBUILD:

I decided to stick with CTAN sources because their fonts are much better looking than the upstream's. There used to be some serious rendering issues with the 0.016 release from here and as far as I can tell 0.016 (dated 2014-04-07) is still the latest official version available. The development seems to have stopped, too: the last commit on GitHub is more than 12 months old now.

Unfortunately, I don't remember where the ttf branch comes from, but again it looks way better than the 0.016 release (which is mirrored at www.fontsquirrel.com).

All in all, right now it seems that the packages available in the ib repo are still the safest option to go with. Sorry... :-(
