I have arch installed on 2 macbook pro (8.1 and 11.1).
In my opinion the xf86-synaptic-git works best for the trackpad.
A couple of days ago I installed that on 11.1 with no problem but yesterday when installed on 8.1 dependency pointing to libevdev-beta in PKGBUILD was missing in AUR. I edited PKGBUILD to point at libevdev (extra) and that worked. Today xf86-synaptic-git is missing in AUR.
After som thinking this could be because xf86-synaptics-git has been "upgraded" and/or moved to regular arch-system-repo. The same goes for libevdev. I (and probably some others) was "caught in the middle" of this.
Edit:
I have e-mailed the maintainer to get confirmation.

To me it looks like xf86-synaptics-git isn't on the AUR, most probably it wasn't ported to the new AUR after the migration.
Since you seem to be a user and know how to make it work, would you mind uploading it to the AUR? If you need any help, please ask!

Well, it is in the AUR, but it has a little different name: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf86 … aptics-git.
