Hi all,
I started playing X3:TC on my Windows 10 VM recently, but it has the curious feature of randomly hanging, crippling windows, and on occasion halting the physical CPU. While I can't guarantee X3 is the cause, it is the only program that has caused this effect. The problem begins as the classic "broken record" crash, with looping sound and a frozen screen, but the image then distorts, with randomly colored chunks in the top left of the screen, and eventually requiring me to reset the VM with libvirt. In some instances (around a third of the time), when moving back to the host (Synergy), the cursor gradually slows over a period of about 5 seconds, at which point all hardware devices but the motherboard (sound, USB, GPU) shut off, and the status code on the mobo reads 00 (no CPU detected). It has me stumped that a game could crash the VM, let alone the entire machine, but with my limited knowledge I would guess that it's some kind of VRAM corruption, but I wouldn't even know how to begin to diagnose that. The journal has absolutely no information, the most recent messages in every case being completely unrelated.
My setup is as follows:
Kernel: 4.1.6-1-ARCH
Mobo: ASUS Maximus VII Ranger
GPU: GTX980 (passed through to VM)
CPU: i7-4790KAny help or insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Very, but I like to keep work and play seperate. More than anything I'd like to know how a VM can break the host; but running X3 on the host seems like it'll be the end result ![]()
