Thanks Trilby, and to everybody else who has contributed to the thread. Lots of very helpful posts. I've certainly learned a lot and hope others will find it useful. The odd few digs I'm sure are meant in jest and they are like water off a duck's back even if they aren't. RTFM? Been reading it for too long not to know it's obsolete next week. :-)
Having just rebooted, I can tell you the connection is intact. So for my part this thread is marked "solved".
