/etc/acpi/handler.sh not executed on lid closed

I configured suspend by adding pm-suspend command to /etc/acpi/handler.sh button/lid) close) section. It works fine most of the times, but after several days of running with no reboot, it stops. I found out that /etc/acpi/handler.sh is simply no longer executed when I close the lid, although it is still executed on other events, like pressing the "volume up" button. After reboot it works normally again, but after several days the problem occurs again. Any idea why /etc/acpi/handler.sh stops being triggered?

Laptop: Thinkpad T440s
64bit Arch
I use xfce, I disabled all possible setting regarding suspend and lid.

Run acpi_listen from the acpid package to see what events are generated.

Re: /etc/acpi/handler.sh not executed on lid closed

Right now (the problem is present) nothing is displayed when I close the lid. On the other hand when I press the "volume up" button a correctly looking message is displayed
button/volumeup VOLUP 00000080 00000000 K
