CPU cannot get bellow pc3

I noticed my batery life got much worse (it lasts only 3.5 versus 7 hours it used to be about month or two ago) and cpu temps also got higher. CPU usage is normal. Upon closer look, I noticed CPU never gets below PC3 state. In past, I got all states down to PC10, now it won't go below PC3.

What could be causing this? I don't remember installing something that could prevent CPU from getting good rest.

Your image is broken...

Try a different kernel.

Moving to NC.

I'm using 4.1.6, what kernel would you suggest?

I would suggest you read the Etiquette about posting images: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/For … s_and_Code and not post screenshots of text, paste the actual text.

You can try -lts to start and there are a number of others in AUR if you don't want to compile your own...

Re: CPU cannot get bellow pc3

I'm sorry, I thought that since PowerTop output is interactive and formated, it would be better to post as screenshot.

I tried linux-zen and linux-lts and my problems persist.

Re: CPU cannot get bellow pc3

Probably a hardware issue, then. When did you last clean the vents?

Re: CPU cannot get bellow pc3

About 6 months ago, I'll try cleaning them again. But how can that prevent CPU from going to lower state?

Re: CPU cannot get bellow pc3

Cooler was nearly dust-free and cleaning it made no difference. Is there way to determine what is preventing CPU from going to lower sleep state?

Re: CPU cannot get bellow pc3

The most likely cause IME is some other piece of hardware (SATA controller, network card, sound card, graphics card, USB devices, etc.) not being in its power-saving mode, thus necessitating the CPU package to stay at PC3 to keep the necessary links alive.

For example, I just changed the SATA ALPM settings on my desktop to min_power on all links, the CPU now does enter pc6. Try toggling the tunables powertop is suggesting.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. But all Powetop tunables are (and always were) set to recommended value.
