aiglx - cvs PKGBUILDs needed

Hi all,

I've been hearing some good things about AIGLX, especially for systems using i810/i915 drivers. I've been trying to write some CVS PKGBUILDs to try it out but haven't been able to get it working.

Could I second this request? XGL screwing up like nobody's business on my box, and the presence of certain things required for it seems to make Gnome go bonkers.

Edit: This should really be moved to "AUR Package Requests".

I am maintaining Xgl & Compiz PKGBUILDs, I can also make AIGLX (well, xorg-xserver from CVS have already AIGLX included) PKGBUILDs. But I don't have i810/i915 or r200 card, so I can't test if it is working. But I will try it and I will add AIGLX PKGBUILDs to my ABS overlay with Xgl. Just wait some time (day or two).

Thanks. FWIW, other (relatively recent) cards with FOSS drivers will probably work too... here's what the Fedora Project page has to say about it.

(They say that the via driver is untested, so I suppose I'll be the first to test it...)

No, you must wait some time. It isn't simple, because you must replace xorg-server, mesa, libgl-dri, libdrm and other X server related things with latest versions from CVS + use some additional patches (and this can break your system).

So wait few days. When I make it, I will post announce here. Be patient, man...

Uh, he did say it's not exactly a cakewalk, and he's probably pretty busy with other stuff... So let's just wait and not make PITAs of ourselves.

aiglx will also be merged into X.org's code, so I think it might be better to just wait for that, then worry about getting the extension running now.

Thanks alot, Mikos. It's really appreciated. I've been trying to write PKGBUILDs myself, as I mentioned in the first post, but the compilation keeps failing. If it's of any help for you, I think there are xorg-server snapshots, with aiglx included, that can be used instead of CVS.

It seems it will be rather complicated to provide us with AIGLX. As far as I understand all the drivers need to be rebuilt against the new xorg-server, so there might be quite alot to get through in order to get it working.

I'm gonna poke around a bit and see if I get anywhere, in the meantime.

EDIT: Alright, found it. I was accidently applying the patches that the PKGBUILD of xorg-server 1.0.2 applies to that version of xorg-server. I commented them in the PKGBUILD (except the redahat-die-patch) and now it compiled. Well, I'm off to see what wonders I can unveil

:evil: I get this when trying to compile the i810 driver, which results in me not having the dri/ drivers, and subsequently no direct rendering. Any ideas why this is?

Alright, this is what I got:

xorg-server: 1.0.99.901

I have dual head setups working properly now (which I've never had before), which is very nice

Running xgl is a bit snappier, but scrolling text (firefox, openoffice) is still done in software mode, which is weird, since I thought this issue was fixed with the new driver.

Peculiarities:

I've seen those warning messages before (on a matrox machine), but never with the i810 driver. I do believe they're harmless.

However, fps is a lot lower now running glxgears, around 490 :?

AIGLX doesn't load because it can't find i915_dri.so. I haven't changed any settings anywhere, and I'm not sure why it looks for the module there or how to change its search path.

Furthermore, I don't even know how to change gnome's WM to compiz instead of metacity, but I guess I could google for that...

Since I really managed to clutter this thread, and since this thread in either case is under AUR package requests, I've started a new thread to troubleshoot aiglx.

I'll share my PKGBUILDs if anyone wants them, but they're pretty much like the offical PKGBUILDs, with minor changes.
