Hello,
since the last nvidia upgrade (355.11) my visible desktop is shifted to the lower left. I cannot see the menu button in the lower left corner and there are black borders on the right and top. This happens both with Cinnamon and Gnome. Reverting back to the old nvidia package fixes the problem.
Any suggestions on this?

you can install KDE to see if it causes problems with the new driver too.
also give us the content of /var/log/Xorg.0.log when this happens.

By any chance is you monitor connected to the VGA port of your graphic card?

I tried KDE, it has the same problem.
Strange: gdm does not seem to be affected.

Xorg.0.log when problem appears
Xorg.0.log after downgrading to old packages

No, it is connected by DVI.

And is the resolution higher or equal to the screen native one? Does it work if you use a lower resolution?

It is the native resolution (1920x1200).
Does it work if you use a lower resolution?
When I switch to a lower resolution (1920x1080), the screen is centered. It still stays centered when I change back to the native resolution. However, after rebooting it is shifted again.
Did you notice the differences between the two Xorg log files? There is a different maximum pixel clock (165 vs. 330) and the working one has additional lines at the end.

It seems that the pixel clock values are different only for the disconnected outputs, so I think they are not relevant for this issue. One log has more lines than the other one only because those messages are logged periodically and the two logs cover a different interval of time.

It seems I am not alone with there, there is a thread in the official NVidia forums which actually links here.
