Some applications refuse to open on the desired "DISPLAY"

Hello Arch Forums!

I have two monitors, both running separate X sessions. I can run most applications on my second display by entering

DISPLAY=:1.1 (application name)

but some programs are stubborn. Kodi and EmulationStation both run on my main display regardless of whether I enter

DISPLAY=:1.0 kodi

or

DISPLAY=:1.1 kodi

In fact, running

DISPLAY=:1.1 emulationstation

just makes my main display go blank in GNOME (it just shows up on the first monitor in XFCE). Nothing happens on the second display.

Is there a way to get these programs to open on the correct display?
