iw not scanning 5GHz networks

Hi there,

I did a recent pacman sync/update over the week-end, and I cannot access any 5GHz network. I've searched here and there for tips / misconfiguration clues or else without luck so far.

* https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … figuration
* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
* https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=196732
* https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=177468

I'm using Gnome, that's when I discovered that the 5GHz network were not displayed.
Then I went straight to the terminal :

~ ○ ❯ ip link show
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: wlp2s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UP mode DORMANT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether c4:8e:8f:f3:1d:b9 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

Then start a scan

~ ○ ❯ sudo iw wlp2s0 scan                                                                                                                                                                ⚡[..........]

There's something with wpa_supplicant, but I'm not sure it has anything to do with not seeing 5GHz networks. Especially since it works a bit later when connecting to a 2GHz network.

I don't know what I am missing there. I'll keep looking but I gladly accept any pointers!

Thanks in advance

Re: iw not scanning 5GHz networks

It may be just a kernel bug smile If you still have your previous version of "linux" package in /var/cache/pacma/pkg, install it (pacman -U /var/...) and see if it helps.

Re: iw not scanning 5GHz networks

Actually here's something weird, 5GHz networks are scanned at home, but not in the office.

Wifi channel seem to be ok according to regional settings. I really don't get what's wrong here :S

@mich41, sorry for late reply something did show up at work. I've checked the linux kernel package, but it wasn't updated. Still

Re: iw not scanning 5GHz networks

I tried the updated broadcom driver (6.30.223.271-2) from AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl-dkms/). And I see again those missing 5GHz wifi networks.

It seems however other have issues (like kernel panic) with this version of the driver (see comments on the AUR page), I didn't have any at this point, but I'll report back if there is.

Note I updated to kernel 4.2.2-1-ARCH a couple of week ago to see if it helped, it didn't.
