Hmm I was thinking of how great it would be if we could have a tool that could retrive PKGBUILDs from the AUR, put them in their own folder and run makepkg on them and then maybe even use packman to install the package...so im thinking of working on this (assuming there is not a tool like this already..I haven't found one) So Im just wondering if anybody has any suggestions or critisisums of this idea and I would love any help if someone would be willing to provide it, thanx in advanced.

How hard did you look? It's called aurbuild, and it's in the AUR, of course.

Both aurbuild and qpkg in the AUR can build packages straight off of the AUR.

Now, I've never been interested (until now) in tools for building packages from AUR automatically... but...
I do have some questions:
1. What are the major differences between them (I see both have lots of votes, aurbuild has more)? - I kind of need some sort of review
2. I don't see much difference in dependencies and I guess they might be similar in structure (at the code level) - why don't the 2 programs "join forces"?
P.S. I didn't test any of them because I don't have time right now.

qpkg is more like a pacman wrapper that can do all sorts of fun stuff, whereas aurbuild is just an advanced commandline helper for the AUR.
