Can't open SD card, dmesg show card is detected and given drive id sdb

Hello,

I'm having issues with accessing my SD card. I'm running a clean install from the latest source, followed the beginner's install guide.

I've been scouting around the forums and the internet but I have not found a solution to my problem.
I'm running Arch inside VMware workstation 12.

If I connect a SD card in my pc dmesg shows the following:

usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 5 using ehci-pci
usb-storage 2-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected
scsi host6: usb-storage 2-1:1.0
scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access Multiple Card Reader 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4
sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk

This leads me to believe that the device is deteced correctly. and is given the /dev/sdb identifier.

I'm trying to place ArchARM on the sd card for my raspberry pi, so I follow the guide: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi
However using fdisk -l the device is not shown.

I've tried mounting, but that didn't work either.
lsblk only shows sda and sr0
lsusb does show that the card reader (Alcor Micro Copr. Multi Flash Reader) is recognized.

Any help would be appreceated. If you need more info, ask please.

Greetings

What command did you use to mount the sd card?

What was the output message of that command?

hmm. I had left during the noon and powered off the VM host machine. Now that I returned and started the host and the Arch VM, it suddenly works.

I feel a bit silly now..

Well, thanks for the attempt to help anyway!
