installing nvidia-libgl (over mesa-libgl) breaks gnome

I have set up arch with gnome. When I installed nvidia drivers it asked me for libgl version. If I use the nvidia version it breaks gnome but mesa works fine.

I was wondering is mesa-libgl going to be OK?
I've read that mesa is for nouveau and nvidia for nvidia proprietary (obv!).

Re: installing nvidia-libgl (over mesa-libgl) breaks gnome

I'm experiencing the same problem. Installing nvidia-libgl takes me to "Ops something went wrong"-screen upon logging in, but using mesa-libgl I'm able to login. However I don't see any animations, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I've installed the numix-themes package and switched to that theme but I don't get any animations like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_al7kO8paY

Do you see any window animations?

Re: installing nvidia-libgl (over mesa-libgl) breaks gnome

The animations don't work with Nouveau.

What worked for me was installing mesa-libgl when X.Org prompted for a driver, after I logged in on Gnome I switched to tty2 (CTRL + ALT + F2) and installed the proprietary drivers with the following command:

sudo pacman -S nvidia nvidia-libgl

It will ask to remove mesa-libgl, just answer yes.

After the driver is installed reboot the systen with:

sudo reboot

Hope it helps.

Re: installing nvidia-libgl (over mesa-libgl) breaks gnome

Just tried that with no luck. Installing mesa-libgl once again allows me to login to Gnome again but still no animations, i.e. it doesn't load nvidia-libgl so it fallsback to software rendering.

If anyone else have any helpful tips it would be much appreciated.
