[solved] Intel graphics no display signal if booted with monitor off

Just updated my HTPC to a new Braswell board using Intel graphics. If the TV is on when the computer boots then everything works great. If the computer is booted with the TV off and the TV is later turned on, I can't get a display signal. I have it connected via HDMI. I'm not sure how to fix this, anyone have any ideas?

Did you try unplugging and plugging in the cable again?

I have similar issue with VGA monitor on sandy bridge laptop after waking up from suspend without monitor plugged in. Sometimes I have to plugin the cable two-three times in order to get signal on my monitor.

Unfortunately that wouldn't be a solution even if it worked. I have to move furniture to reach the cable. I think I need a way to either force HDMI output at all times or to trick the driver into thinking the monitor is there at all times. Have been messing with xorg.conf, xrandr, and forcing an EDID but nothing I've tried so far has worked. But I'm definitely not an expert with any of those.

Well this was a case of needing to read the manual again. For anyone else who might have the same issue, I got it to work by adding the following at boot as a kernel parameter.

drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=HDMI-A-1:edid/47le5400.bin video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080-24@60D

Where HDMI-A-1 is the connector name in /sys/class/drm, and the EDID firmware file was retrieved using get-edid and placed in /usr/lib/firmware/edid.
